New Look
Some people change their blog templates like their underwear. Unlike underwear, though, blog templates are not subject to staining with bodily secretions containing aromatic compounds causing people to whine, "OMG, haven't you ever heard of SOAP?"
For the record, I love my old template. I think maroon and gray go together wonderfully. The look was classic. So why the switch?
Hat tip to the oxymoronically well-known Dr. Anonymous for this bit about branding. Reading it, I realized that my brand is, of course, the Dinosaur. For better or worse, whatever else I end up publishing (and yes indeed, there are plenty of other non-Dino works in the pipeline), I am
Hence the switch to a more saurian-appearing (ie, green) template. Rest assured, this portends no change in content, which is good news for all three of you regular readers, and bad news for this crotchety old guy in his 80s I've known for years. (Which is to say that yes, four-letter words will continue to appear on occasion.)

I like the green. Wish the print were more high contrast though. These old 65 year old eyes aren't doing so well!
What...no pebbled,chameleon-skin? No spines? No thagomizer on the tail?
I thought your old colors were your "Brand". Now I've got dino brand confusion. Oh no!
I hate change! I didn't want the new Yahoo home page and avoided it entirely until they made me switch. So I suppose I can get used to this. Hmm. Should I change my blog template now? Hmm.
I'm with Crankyprof. As much as I love bright colors, I feel there should be more texture to make it truly saurian.
'tis a tad bright, of course it doesn't help to be viewing it through tired eyes. I'll have to look at it again in the a.m.
sounded more like he was talking about sticking with the same thing because thats what people are used to, but what do I know? Less bright would be easier on the eye, though.
This from the crotchety old guy whom Dino has known for years: WTF, the you might as well stick to what you're doing, four-letter words and all. BTW, the two four-letter words that shock me most are GIFT SHOP, which is why I'm known as a COG.
I have a feeling your readership may be increasing slightly due to the post on Book of Joe highlighting himself and, in passing, you.
I surfed on over from his site and will be adding you to my dashboard.
And please, do not discount the new color scheme. I admit a fondness for green in all its shades and do believe that was the tipping point in my interest in your blog.
My fascination has nothing to do whatsoever with your thrilling word play and use of higher vocabulary.

When the blog content is as kick-ass as this one (am I allowed to say that, cuz it's true!), the color scheme doesn't matter that much! The thing that makes me a little crazy are the ones who put music players in their sidebars that automatically start when you click into the blog. Hopefully you'll never do that.
I'm diggin' the green, actually. Maybe the background could be even darker than the heading, but I dunno if you can (or want) to change that or not.

Thanks so much for the link. I appreciate it. "Internet branding" is always an interesting topic for me.
Also, if you're interested and available, it'd be great for you to be a guest on my podcast show sometime to talk about your book and your blog.
How are maroon and gray not dinosaur colors?!? The lizards I've seen are an even mix between brown and green; and we all know that lizards are modern dinosaurs. You might as well say purple is a saurian color because of Barney!
Gotta say that I'm not a huge fan of the green (too girly!), but then again, I generally follow you through google reader, so it actually doesn't make a difference.
I do have a sense of nostalgia for the cat avatar, though it's nice to see your face as well.
